Parshah Vayigash 2025

This week’s Torah portion, Vayigash, continues the famous story of Joseph’s life after he was sold into slavery by his brothers. Judah, who had suggested not to kill Joseph but sell him into slavery, now pleads for the release of their younger brother, Benjamin, while offering himself as a slave.  After witnessing his brother’s loyalty to one another, Joseph is emotionally moved and reveals his true identity to them. All the brothers are overcome by shame and remorse for having sold Joseph into slavery, but he comforts them, insisting, “It was not you who sent me here, but G-d, who ordained it from above to save us, and the entire region, from famine.”  Joseph’s father, Jacob, along with the entire family move from Canaan to Egypt and are reunited with Joseph (while he continues to sell food and seed to people during the time of famine).
