Parshah Vayeshev 2024
This week’s Torah Portion, Vayeshev, (Genesis Chap 37 – 40) tells us how Jacob and his 12 sons settle down in Hebron. Jacob has a favorite son, Joseph, who he treats differently and makes a fancy coat of many colors for him to wear. Joseph’s brothers are jealous. Joseph then shares his prophetic dreams how he will rule over his brothers. This increases their jealousy and anger. Simeon and Levi desire to kill Joseph while Reuben plans to save him but Joseph is sold into slavery in Egypt by his own brothers. While enslaved in Egypt, Joseph is falsely accused of rape and sent to prison. Joseph remains faithful to G-d, uses his prophetic gift to help others, and is held in high esteem in the prison (although he remains imprisoned).
– How can G-d allow Joseph, who is so faithful to Him, to suffer so much unfairness?
– We’ve read of Joseph’s suffering. Is G-d truly just?
– What can we learn from this story to apply to our lives?
– Please join us and let’s get into it!
